This month, we are highlighting the importance of community and connection for those diagnosed with cancer, their caregivers, and for everyone in Acadiana. Studies have shown that social support and connection have a positive effect on our physical health, our emotional state. and overall well-being.
This social support can help alleviate the negative effects of a cancer diagnosis and treatment and can help improve outcomes, strengthen our mental health, and better our quality of life. A supportive community can provide inspiration, motivation, and be very helpful in your recovery process.
A supportive community can come from many different places…family, friends, neighbors, a support group, your medical team, work colleagues, etc. If you are in need of community and connection, please reach out to us at Miles Perret and talk with one of our Service Coordinators.
At Miles Perret, we strive to provide a supportive community for all those diagnosed in Acadiana and their caregivers and are here to provide support however we can. We host a monthly breast cancer support group, and we are actively looking to open additional support groups where people can connect. Our Wellness Center has workshops, education classes, group exercise classes, and more – all to provide connection with others in our community.
In the spirit of building community and connection, we also host events throughout the year that bring our community together: annual survivor event, Gleaux Run, and Games of Acadiana, click here to register.
