LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Sitting at 2-9 and losing to Lamar, 74-45, on Saturday, head basketball coach Bob Marlin expressed some frustration with the media during his weekly news conference on Monday, December 16, after being asked a question about fan confidence in the team.
"Coach, why, at this point of the season, should the fans believe in this team, the staff, and yourself?" asked one sports journalist.
"What, repeat that, please? 'Cause they support our staff, they support our team; they are fans," replied Coach Marlin. "We have had a lot of success. I don’t know if you have looked around. I know you want to be negative sometimes but we are not negative. We haven’t even played a conference game and you want to ask me that? Were you at the game Saturday? No, I don’t think you were. You haven’t been to a bunch of them, so you don’t know. But our fans support our team, our university. It's what it's about. You know, we are not going to win a championship every year. Go back to football. Mike had a great team and they were hosting a championship football game and down to their third quarterback by halftime, right? It’s hard to win when you are playing hard times like that, out manned at certain spots. Anything else?"
The Cajuns next host App State (6-4) on Wednesday, December 18, at 7 p.m.
