ST. MARTINVILLE, La. — In the aftermath of the deadly St. Martinville homecoming football game shooting, St. Martin Parish Schools Superintendent Frederick Wiltz issued the following statement:
Dear St. Martin Parish School Community,
I share a deep sadness with the community over the tragic incident that occurred outside our homecoming event last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected and their families during this incredibly difficult time. While this event has shaken our community, I want to assure you that we are here to support one another, especially our children.
The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our top priority. Law enforcement was already on-site as part of our standard operations and promptly took control of the situation. Although those involved were not students or staff, we provided law enforcement with any necessary assistance, and they are handling the investigation. Requests for information should be directed to the St. Martinville Police Department, as they are overseeing the investigation.
We understand that this incident has raised serious concerns among our students and families, and we encourage students to share any concerns with trusted adults. The district will also provide counseling services for students needing support in the days ahead.
The district takes great care in ensuring the safety of all students and staff, and at this time, we do not have reason to believe that any students or staff are at risk of harm on any campus related to this isolated event. We appreciate the strength and support of our community as we focus on the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Frederick Wiltz
Superintendent
St. Martin Parish Schools
