NEW IBERIA, La. — The New Iberia Police Department (NIPD) responded to a robbery at a convenience store located in the 1200 block of East Admiral Doyle Drive on Saturday, January 11, around 3:30 a.m..
Responding officers arrived on scene and learned from the store clerk that a man entered the store, approached the clerk, and struck the clerk behind the head. The suspect demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect fled the store with about $300 in cash and $350 worth of cigarettes.
Officers obtained images of the suspect from video surveillance equipment.
The suspect was quickly identified as Lamar Brooks, 27, of New Iberia.
Officers searched multiple locations in attempt to locate Brooks.
Later that evening, members of the patrol division located Brooks at a home in the 700 block of Courrege Street.

Brooks attempted to flee out of the home but was met by officers. Brooks retreated back into the residence where officers pursued and apprehended him.
A search warrant was obtained and executed on the residence. During the search, officers recovered clothing used in the robbery and items taken during the robbery.
Brooks was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the charge of simple robbery.
