NEW ORLEANS — For the second time in the seven-year history of the event, Sun Belt West Division champion Louisiana (10-2, 7-1 SBC) has earned the right to host the Hercules Tires Sun Belt Football Championship at Cajun Field at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Ragin' Cajuns, who are appearing in their conference-best fifth championship game, will host first-time championship game qualifier Sun Belt East Division champion Marshall (9-3, 7-1 SBC).
The game will once again be nationally televised on ESPN, which has been the broadcast home for the Sun Belt Football Championship since the event's inception in 2018.
Louisiana owns three Sun Belt football championships all-time (2005, 2020 and 2021), including a pair during the championship game era. Marshall, which joined the Sun Belt ahead of the 2022 campaign, is searching for its first-ever Sun Belt football title. Just five teams—App State, Coastal Carolina and Marshall out of the East Division and Louisiana and Troy out of the West Division—have ever competed in the Hercules Tires Sun Belt Football Championship.
