OPELOUSAS, La. (KADN) — St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said a trusty was killed during a training exercise.
Guidroz explained new recruits were taking part in a high-speed driving training at the St. Landry Parish Airport, off of Airport Road in Opelousas on Monday, May 20.
He added the trusty was assigned to pick up cones on site and was driving a "side-by-side" when he lost control and was pinned under the ATV.
Sheriff Guidroz said the trusty died a few hours later at a hospital.
The sheriff also said investigators are reconstructing the scene to make further determination of all possible factors in the crash.
The victim's name is not being released at this time.
