New Louisiana election law may stop former Youngsville police chief from running for his old job

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KADN) — News 15 Investigates has uncovered former Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux's bid to run for his former job will likely not happen because of a new state election law.

The change makes anyone who resigns an elected seat ineligible to run in a special election to fill the remainder of their term.

News 15 Investigates contacted Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Louis Perret about the new law. Perret said in his opinion, Boudreaux will not be eligible to run in the November special election.

Boudreaux stepped down last summer, shortly after the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Youngsville police under his leadership. The investigation's findings described the department as "disorganized, chaotic, and grossly negligent."

Two other candidates, including the current interim Youngsville police chief, have announced plans to seek the seat.

We've called and texted Boudreaux multiple times over the last two days but he has not responded.
