YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KADN) — A petition objecting to former Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux's candidacy has been filed with the 15th Judicial District attorney.

You'll recall our report from last week detailing Boudreaux's announcement to run for his old job in the upcoming special election.

The petition states Boudreaux illegally qualified as a candidate for chief of police, citing he is prohibited by law from becoming a candidate.

As News 15 Investigates first pointed out, a new state law prevents candidates who resigned from office from running in the special election to fill the vacancy.

District Attorney Don Landry said the law is clear on the matter.

Boudreaux resigned last year amid an investigation by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office that uncovered "deplorable practices" under his leadership.

A judge has set a hearing for Wednesday on the petition.
