LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — The man arrested for the murder of an elderly man, who was an innocent bystander when gunfire erupted outside his Lafayette home, has been indicted by a Lafayette Parish grand jury.

Court documents show Leonce Boutte IV, 27, of Lafayette, is formally charged with second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder (3 counts).

Lafayette police said Stannford Mouton, 70, was killed in the shooting that happened in the 400 block of Macklyn Street on Tuesday, May 21, around 4:30 a.m.

According to investigators, Boutte opened fire after a separate incident involving three other people on Macklyn Street and one of the bullets hit Mouton while he was inside his house.

Court documents also indicate a Lafayette Parish grand jury returned a no true bill on Tr'Marion Thomas, 17, of Lafayette, who was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder (3 counts) and principal to second-degree murder.

The charges against Thomas are now dropped after the grand jury found there was not enough evidence to go to trial.
