LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — While UL football has been on the field practicing in recent days so were some local youth flag football stars.
The Kevin Moore III and Braylen Trahan Flag Football Tournament was held at Acadiana High School.
There is a battle for the Cajuns’ third-string quarterback position, which over the past couple seasons, has seen some action.
Head coach Michael Desormeaux brought up another familiar Acadiana star.
"Sam Altman, bring him back in; let him get some reps,” said Coach Desormeaux. “We are going to go with four groups. We need four good quarterbacks ready to go and Sam has had a good summer, too."
New transfer from LSU and Lafayette star Fitzgerald West Jr. is learning a new technique.
"I'm starting out to play a little 4i (inside), so I got to learn that position a little bit, said defensive lineman Fitzgerald West Jr. “It hasn't been a struggle for me. It's just everyone messes up. I've been messing up a couple times. I'll get it."
This weekend was the Kevin Moore III and Braylen Trahan Flag Football Tournament.
"Yeah, man, we got a lot of current athletes,” said Moore. “We got athletes that played in the past. Everyone out here getting real competitive."
Though it was warm, there was shade available and vendors came out to do business with the community.
There were 10 teams that competed for a $500 cash prize and the trophy.
"We just thankful for this opportunity and we also want to thank Acadiana High School for allowing us to host this at their practice field," added Moore.
He explained that this is the second tournament that they have put on. They learned a lot from both of them and can't wait for next year.
