LAFAYETTE, LA- These past few months, Americans have felt the surge in rent and food, but now they feel it at the pump as gas prices seem to change by the day.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette's economic professor, Anthony Greco , says gas has already increased at the pump but it's now affecting day-to-day operations.
"It's very hard to find the truckers to do it, the people to load and unload and what not. It's getting more expensive. It's pretty expensive to fill up one of those trucks. So, the shelves in grocery stores are not filled like they used to be."
There's no question that gas prices are skyrocketing to prices we haven't seen since 2008, which means the cost of goods could also continue to rise.
"Because they have to travel a distance, a lot of products are petroleum-based the prices of gas goes up, the products have to go up. So, in general, there is high inflation in the economy, "said Greco.
President Biden addressed the nationwide inflation and higher gas prices in his State of the Union , saying that he'll be releasing 60 million barrels of oil from the worldwide reserves to reduce prices.
